All residential homes with water conditioners and water softeners, such as your own, have a bypass. This can be easily identified by finding the red handles on the back of the valve. There is an inlet bypass, which flows into the water conditioner--and an outlet bypass, which flows out of the water conditioner and on into the rest of the home.
Under normal circumstances, when the system is running the nozzles will point in and out respectively, and the system will be in ‘normal operation mode’ at this time. If ever a need arises to bypass the system, this can be done by toggling the knobs to be perpendicular to one another, shutting down the flow of water into the water conditioner system. You’ll still have water to the home, but it will not be going through the conditioning process by working its way through the system.
